Description:
Barbara Drive plays punked-up post-British invasion rock-n-roll with a Latin twist. What does this mean? It means our songs follow the pop format perfected by the Beatles, Stones, and the Who. We like vocal harmonies and catchy riffs. Our sound and lyrics aim for the edge and narrative imagery of groups like the Clash, the Jam, and, before them, the Kinks, all groups from the U.K. For themes and melody, some listeners have associated us with REM, Green Day, and the Meat Puppets, from the U.S., which is of course very flattering. In the end, were like all of those bands and unlike them at the same time. We really think we have a distinctive sound and identity. In part, that comes from the Latin twist. You see, Barbara Drives rhythm section is from Lima, Peru. So theres a lilt to the Barbara Drive beat that is recognizable but unique within the genre. Also, alternative bands dont usually have a guitar player who rips off leads with cascading runs and hammer-ons. On guitar, we do stuff that you dont always hear among the other alternative groups. Our three-tune EP, No Regrets is available on iTunes and Amazon.com. Recorded at Smart Studios in Madison famous for working with groups like Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Garbage, and Death Cab for Cutie, among others the disc features No Regrets, an almost love song, Riddlin Dreams, an edgy pop song about growing up outside the lines, and Another Man, a song about getting fired and watching your dreams slip away, something sadly relevant in todays economy. We continue to record at Smart and a full-length CD should be available by summer 2009. In the end, Barbara Drive is the sum of its components. Pretenses and facades aside, we create music that we like, and that we hope you'll like. Music that will take you to a place where we once walked - painting pictures with words and sounds.
